KTP Funding
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships is a Technology Strategy Board Programme, enabling innovation in business. The role of lead sponsor for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships transferred from the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (formerly the Department for Trade and Industry) to the new Technology Strategy Board in July 2007.
Each Partnership is part funded by the Technology Strategy Board, with the balance of the costs coming from the company partner. Company and Knowledge Base Supervisors jointly supervise the Associate.
The level of funding each Sponsor provides varies to a significant extent, but each has specified its criteria for funding Knowledge Transfer Partnerships within their overall remit. For example, ESRC's criteria includes the funding of Partnerships where a NHS Trust, a Primary Care Trust or a Local Education Authority may be the 'Company Partner' but limited to selected academic departments.
The KTP Sponsors also form the Management Board for the programme and it is their responsibility to come together to determine and agree overall policy for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. The number of Sponsors has increased over the years, which is testament to the success of KTP and the aim is to continue to work in partnership with an increasing number of Sponsors to enable broadening of the topics that the programme covers.
