Associate Development Course

DIPLOMA IN MANAGEMENT
The KTP Associate Diploma in Management Programme* is designed to equip KTP Associates with skills to successfully deliver their KTP project and at the same time obtain a degree level management qualification. The residential courses are offered on a frequent basis in many locations around the UK. Registration for the Diploma is provided free of charge to the Partnership budget.

Module One - An introduction to Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
This online module is intended to establish the basis for the KTP Associate Development Course, and covers the following:

  • The purpose of the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
  • The roles played by the key participants
  • How Partnerships are organised and managed
  • How they are financed
  • How to establish requirements for the Associate’s Project and its relationship to the objectives of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership
  • How to construct the first version of their personal development plan (PDP) the first assignment to be completed.

Module Two – Personal Development and Project Management
This module is a 5-day residential module, which covers:

  • Developing your management style
  • Principles of project management
  • Managing financial and non-financial resources

At Module Two Associates will be set their second assignment, a report on the Work-Based Mini-Project.

The work-based mini project
A work-based “mini project” is carried out in Month 3. This should be separate from but complementary to the main project and bring the Associate into contact with as many different departments and aspects of their company as possible. This will help the Associate and their colleagues understand the significance of their project.

Associates are required to write a report on the mini project including a 1-2 page executive summary as well as prepare a presentation for Module Three.

Module Three – Marketing and Communications
Module Three is a further 5-day residential course, which covers:

  • Planning to meet customer and quality requirements
  • The use of design in a business context
  • Effective communication and information management
  • Intellectual Property Rights
  • Managing marketing activities

At Module Three Associates will be set their third assignment.

Module Four - Performance and Financial Management
Module Four is the final 5-day residential course, which covers:
  • Managing performance
  • Effective financial management
  • International Business

At Module Four Associates will be set their fourth assignment and will receive guidance on the final diploma report.

Upon successful completion of the Diploma in Management (Level 5), the following progression options become available:

  • Enhance your professional status by becoming a Member (MCMI) of the Chartered Management Institute
  • Start working towards Chartered Manager status
  • Progress onto the next level of Institute qualification the Executive Diploma in Management whose credit rating with the Open University (60 M points) means that most UK universities will give you credit towards relevant masters, MBA or postgraduate programmes.
