National Vocational Qualification
Associates develop considerable management skills and understanding through managing their KTP
Projects, attending the Associate Development Course and implementing their Personal Development
Plans. The National Management Standards are a nationally agreed framework to guide Associates in
acquiring these skills, and a route to gaining a professional award, the National Vocational
Qualification (NVQ) in Management at Level 4.
Registration for the NVQ is provided free of charge to the Partnership budget. Associates achieve
the NVQ by demonstrating competence and understanding of management to the National Standards through
the presentation of evidence and its formal assessment. Nearly all the necessary evidence can be
provided from the products (plans, reports, designs, data, presentations, etc), which Associates
generate routinely during the course of their work. The evidence is usually assessed by their dedicated
Project Adviser.
Upon successful completion of the Level 4 NVQ in Management, the following progression options become available:
- Enhance your professional status by becoming a Member (MCMI) of the Chartered Management Institute
- Start working towards Chartered Manager status
- Progress to the next level of Institute qualification, the Level 5 NVQ in Management, or the Executive
Diploma in Management whose credit rating with the Open University (60 M points) means that most UK
universities will give you credit towards relevant masters, MBA or postgraduate programmes
